Research Staff Positions Open

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking applications from highly qualified candidates for positions in the Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation. Preferred candidates will have a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, engineering science or computer science, and at least ten years post-Ph.D. experience, or eight years experience of their completion of their last postdoctoral associate position.

Successful candidates will be expected to establish an independent and externally funded research program. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in computational actinide chemistry, application of leadership class computers to scientific problems, or applied mathematics to support theory and code development-with preference for application to multiscale/multiphysics systems.

Outstanding candidates with experience in computational fluid dynamics coupled with heat and neutron/radiation transport, computational materials science or visualization will also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong commitment to across-disciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration.

Successful applicants will be expected to actively participate in programs at one or more INL centers — such as the Center for Nuclear Fuels and Materials, the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, the Center for Space Nuclear Research, and/or in INL distinctive signature research programs-such as Advanced Materials and Nuclear Fuels, Separations and Actinide Science, Microbiological and Geological Systems, and Instrumentation, Control and Intelligent Systems.

Applicants should submit a current curriculum vita with a list of publications, including times cited, to:

Paul Meakin, Ph.D., Director
Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation
Idaho National Laboratory
P.O. Box 1625
Idaho Falls, ID 83415-2211

Candidates should arrange to have at least six letters of recommendation sent to Paul Meakin, or should include contact information for references in the curriculum vita. Evaluation of applications will begin in December 2005. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

The U.S. Department of Energy has given the INL the responsibility of revitalizing nuclear power in the United States, and to becoming the preeminent national nuclear energy laboratory with synergetic world-class multi-program capabilities. INL is a federal facility operated by the Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA), and it also performs work involving national security; therefore, some positions require U.S. citizenship. BEA is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/D/V.
