From 2007-2010, the Instrumentation & Controls theme will support the following activities:
- Provide mathematical and computer science tools for dealing with the control of complex dynamical systems
- Provide hardware and software infrastructure to support computational modeling techniques that enable interaction and visualization of the massive data sets that will be created by smart sensors
- Develop comprehensive virtual engineering models that integrate sensors, models, human interaction, and other key engineering process variables together
- Develop a framework for model and sensor integration that enables real-time sensor and control system operation
- Develop advanced computational models and methods for simulation of reactor control and sensor systems as a part of the CAMS codes for simulation of new generation reactors
- Provide the capabilities to develop data fusion techniques that respond to input from intelligent, distributed sensor systems.
