The ITP Chemical Industry technology vision emphasizes developing new technologies, enhanced economics, and the promotion of environmentally safe and friendly products. The chemical industry--suppliers and users of basic chemicals--has developed a roadmap and vision for the future of the industry. The goal for the roadmap to provide a technology vision and establish the technical priorities in areas critical to improving the chemical industry’s competitiveness; to develop recommendation to strength cooperation among industry, government agencies, and academic institutions; and to provide direction for continuous improvement and step change technology. The U.S. Chemical industry employs over a million workers.
The road map identifies four technical areas crucial to future of the industry:
- New chemical science and engineering technology in the form of chemical synthesis, bioprocesses and biotechnology, materials technology, separations, computational chemistry, and computational fluid dynamics
- Supply chain management
- Information systems including infrastructure systems, produce and process design and development, and computers in manufacturing and operations management, plant management and construction
- Manufacturing and operations including global operations, supplier relationships, new plant development, information and process control, product capability, and customer focus
INL’s role The INL is able to support these chemical science focus areas by having approximately 150 research engineers and scientists in these fields.
