Postgraduate Internships

The Postgraduate Internship Program provides recent college graduates with research experience and opportunities to explore their major discipline in a real world environment through involvement with INL mission-related projects. This program is open to graduates who have completed all institutional requirements for a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university, and will not be enrolled in a graduate program during the term of their internship.

Postgraduate interns will be administered by Washington State University (WSU). The participants will become WSU employees, thereby incorporating their appointments and payments into WSU's customary policies and procedures.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selection of participants is competitive and is based on applicant qualifications, interests and compatibility with the needs and resources of the INL, career goals, references, and the projected benefit of the experience to the individual and the INL. Post-baccalaureate and post-masters appointments require ETRP management approval prior to offering the award.

U.S. citizenship is not required. Non-U.S. citizen Interns will have restricted access to computer resources and facilities, and limited access to information/technologies.

APPOINTMENT CONDITIONS

Terms and conditions shall contain special appointment stipulations that may include, but not be limited to, an appointment period less than 12 months or part-time appointment status. If an appointment is full-time, but less than 12 months, the participant will receive benefits as identified in the benefits section.

BENEFITS

As WSU employees, post-graduates appointees are eligible for WSU's complete benefit package, which includes medical insurance, dental insurance, insurance for same-sex domestic partners, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance, whenever an appointment is for longer than 6 months and greater than 50%.

Note: Participants must take Annual Leave or Time Off Without Pay during the INL annual work shutdown between Christmas and New Year's holidays.
