2007 INL Science and Engineering Expo
Sept. 20-22, 2007
1545 West Broadway (in the old Ernst Building)
Idaho Falls, ID 83402
Idaho National Laboratory will partner with the Museum of Idaho to bring "I Spy - The Magic of Science" to students in grades 6 through 8. The Expo will be held in Idaho Falls at the old Ernst Building, 1545 W. Broadway, located 1 mile west of the Museum of Idaho. This location provides a huge amount of indoor space and plenty of parking.
The INL Science and Engineering Expo plays a prominent role in the development portion of the Governor's Science and Technology Plan. The Expo is a scientific extravaganza - a high-impact, inquiry-based education and community outreach experience - that exposes students, their teachers and parents to a wide and diverse range of potential careers in science, mathematics, engineering and technology.
Science and Technology in our Lives
INL partners with many businesses and industries, professional societies, universities and other government agencies to bring new developments in science and state-of-the-art technology to the public. Exhibitors and presenters stimulate curiosity, inform and teach through engaging hands-on activities and experiments, interactive demonstrations, simulations and crowd-pleasing presentations. All activities are linked to the National Science Education Standards and correlated Idaho State Achievement Strands II-X.
Student days will be Thursday and Friday, Sept. 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grades 6 through 8.
Family Day will be Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
The main stage will feature The Magic of Science by Al Stawicki, The Great PHEOC. The Great PHEOC is a mystifying science magician who involves his audiences in problem-solving situations filled with laughs, educational lessons and unforgettable, magical entertainment. (PHEOC is an acronym for the scientific method of problem hypothesis, experiment, observation and conclusion.) To learn more about The Great PHEOC see http://www.sciencemagic.biz/.
