We offer a professional development opportunity for teachers to team up with scientific and technical experts at the laboratory. During an 8-week summer program, participants are immersed in a discipline-compatible project for research or application. Teachers are given opportunities to apply science, mathematics, and technology concepts that are linked to courses taught in typical teacher education curricula. Teachers are given confidence-building opportunities that deepen their knowledge and strengthen their curriculum development and teaching skills in science, mathematics, and technology.
Teachers who demonstrate an intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, dedication to teaching, and self-motivation for improvement are accepted into the program. Participants must be U.S. citizens or Permanent Resident Aliens.
As a result of this experience, participants develop valuable collegial relations and leadership skills. They take new skills back to the classroom. They energize students to think about careers in science, mathematics, engineering, or technology. They take new skills back to the school. Through their own excitement, they help to revitalize the teaching profession. Through their contribution to Teaming Teachers with INL, teachers help the INL build academic excellence in science and technology.
Participants receive an hourly wage commensurate with their academic credentials and experience for their participation in the 8-week program.
Out-of-state participants will receive a monthly housing allowance.
