Ion Mobility Spectroscopy Research

Research, development, and testing of ion mobility spectroscopy (IMS) instruments have been and continue to be significant. The largest of these activities has been performance testing for detection of explosives and other low volatile compounds. However, current spectrometer limitations have motivated research into improved designs for next-generation spectrometers.

The Chemistry Department has active testing facilities and expert personnel where IMS instruments are evaluated for detection of explosives. A substantial instrument design and fabrication team is working on generating the next-generation IMS instrument.
