Isotope Ratio Measurements

Measurement of high precision, high abundance sensitivity isotope ratios is one of the outstanding capabilities at INL. The activity was revived as a consequence of strong customer needs for increased capacity and availability of high quality personnel available for instrument design, fabrication, and measurement.

The measurements utilize a unique combination of highly qualified personnel, who use unique thermal-ionization, sector mass spectrometers. The scientific team responsible for this activity consists of wet chemistry for sample preparation and emitter manipulation, development of thermal ionization source technology, instrument conceptualization, design and fabrication, analytical measurement, and data interpretation.
