Labs located at the Reactor Technology Complex (RTC) house an array of sophisticated alpha, beta, and gamma counting analyses. The capability is unique because it is housed in a radiological facility where samples covering a wide range of radionuclide concentrations can be handled.
The labs are equipped with expertise and instrumentation for 20 to 25 gamma spectroscopy analyses, with a more limited number of instruments dedicated to beta and alpha spectroscopy. In blind quality assurance (QA) tests, INL gamma spectroscopy laboratories performed better than any of their counterparts, substantiating the expertise in this department.
