The world is actively seeking new solutions for its energy needs. Among all the alternative energy possibilities, hydrogen is the strongest candidate to meet this need without sacrificing the environment. The solution to this need is to convert the world's supply of sodium borate to sodium borohydride and use it as a clean fuel. INL researchers have developed a nuclear-power-assisted plasma technology to economically mass produce borohydride from sodium borate. Sodium borohydride is a safe hydrogen-rich solution for storing and transporting hydrogen. The technology has been tested under laboratory conditions and will require additional development for use in commercial applications.
