The INL has developed novel membrane materials for the selective removal of polar gasses from non-polar gases such as methane. These phosphazene membranes can be made to be mechanically durable, making them flexible and allow application to a variety of end uses. Because of the challenging environments in gas separations, such as temperatures, pressures and corrosiveness, novel materials are needed. These materials are much simpler, costs less, and are stable to approximately 300 degrees Celsius.
