A powerful laser-based analytical technique has been developed at INL. This patented method brings an added level of versatility and simplicity to measuring constituents in samples by using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy and laser induced fluorescence under ambient conditions. The intensity value of the emission decay signal which is generated by the trace constituent is compared to calibrated emission intensity decay values to determine the amount of trace constituent present.
