Today, considerable national attention is being given to the characterization of large cargo loadings in such items as cargo containers, trucks, and rail. This novel INL technology, using common bremsstrahlung radiation and simple proportional tubes, is being proposed for the location of dense items, such as nuclear materials, in large loadings like cargo containers or trucks. The focus of this technology is to provide an inexpensive and low-resolution imaging, automatic image processing, while maintaining a rapid throughput.
