The INL has developed a small-scale, modular process to manufacture ammonia on a distributed basis. Small modular systems avoid transportation costs from foreign producers and mitigates or reduces the need for large on site storage. The novel process integrates commonly available components to produce ammonia on-demand competitively with traditional large-scale plants.
